Language Exam Information and Dates

Registration is required for all scheduled language placement examinations. Students wishing to take a foreign language course will need to register to take the language placement examination by going to http://placementtest.ucr.edu/. A $20 fee is required for all placement exams.  Checks or money orders should be made payable to "UC Regents."  Each of the language examinations can be taken only once.  All days and times subject to change without notice.  If you have additional questions, e-mail mailto:flplcmnt@ucr.edu or call (951) 827-2148.

The language placement examinations are proficiency-oriented examinations designed to place the student in the most appropriate course. The examination does not yield unit credit. It determines which course a student should enroll. If you have not had any previous experience with the language, you do NOT have to take a placement examination to enroll into the first level of that language. However, if you have had any exposure to the language (in any environment,) you are asked to take the placement examination to confirm the correct course level.

Bring photo identification to the examination. The language placement examinations in Spanish and French are fully automated and the results are available immediately after the examination is taken. These tests are computer-based. The results will indicate the lowest level course in which you may enroll.

The Korean, Chinese and Japanese examinations are paper-based. These examinations are graded and results will be ready for pick-up after a few days. Results are not mailed, e-mailed, faxed, or available by phone, so please plan to return to pick up the results.   Bring photo identification and a pen or pencil to the examination.
